KAMLOOPS — Greg Stewart is going out on top.
The Kamloops shot putter has announced his retirement from competition, less than a year after winning gold for Canada at the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
In a social media post, Stewart calls his departure from high level sport “bittersweet.”
“My life in sport has been a story of adaptation, understanding, hard work, commitment and fun,” he said, noting how he had to struggle to compete in an able-bodied world. Stewart was born without the lower half of his left arm.
Stewart won the F.N.A. Rowell Trophy in 2021, given by Athletics Canada to the Field Event Athlete of the Year.
