Evacuations ordered for eight Lytton First Nation reserves
LYTTON — Eight reserves within the Lytton First Nation territory have been ordered to evacuate because of the threat of the Stein Mountain wildfire. The evacuation order was put in place at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 22).
The evacuated reserves are Lytton reserves 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E, 4F, 33 and Nicklepalm reserve 4.
Evacuated residents should gather their medical prescriptions, important documents and their grab and go bag immediately. All windows in the home should be closed and the doors locked.
Residents have been told to evacuate immediately by travelling north to Lillooet on the Westside/North Spencer Road. Members are to gather at the Lillooet Friendship Centre.
The Stein Mountain wildfire was discovered July 12 and has grown to more than 14 hundred hectares. It’s located approximately 15 km northwest of Lytton.
The BC Wildfire Service says crews are working along North Spencer Road on the northeast side of the fire. Fire hoses are being laid should the need arise to protect structures. Heavy equipment is being used to open up potential control lines.
