Province announces new elementary school for Pineview Valley; construction to begin in 2024
KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Ministry of Education has announced construction of a new 485-seat elementary school for Kamloops.
In a news release, Education Minister Rachna Singh says construction on the Pineview Valley school will begin in spring of 2024, with the school slated to be open in the summer of 2026.
“Our government understands the importance of supporting families, and we know that Kamloops is a fast-growing city,” said Singh. “I’m proud that we are providing funding for a new elementary school with a neighbourhood learning centre that will benefit students and families in the Pineview Valley area for years to come.”
When she last visited Kamloops last month, Singh promised important news was coming soon.
The price tag of the kindergarten-to-Grade 7 school is projected at $65.3 million. The government says it will include a learning centre providing programs and services for the broader community, including child care.
“Our board of education is extremely pleased to receive this much-needed new school announcement, and we look forward to continuing to work with the ministry on our other capital priorities,” said Board of Education Chair Heather Grieve.
