Trial in 2020 downtown Kamloops murder set to begin

KAMLOOPS — The trial for a man accused in a 2020 downtown Kamloops homicide is beginning in B.C. Supreme Court Monday (Jan. 9).
James Dylan Sanford is accused in the September 2020 stabbing death of 33-year-old Daniel Thomas Myles near Canada’s Best Value Inn and Suites in the 1300-block of Columbia Street.
At the time, Kamloops RCMP Plain Clothes Commander Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay said the killing was the culmination of a lengthy dispute.
“This event can best be described as an ongoing conflict between associates which unfortunately culminated with a murder,” stated Pillay. “The victim in this case also has criminal charges before the courts and was also on pre-trial release. One of his conditions was not to attend the [Canada’s Best Value Inn and Suites], which is the scene of this crime. Both the victim and the accused are known to police.”
